Dhaulagiri (which translates as White Mountain) with its height of 8,167 m above sea level is the seventh highest peak on our planet. It lies in the Himalayas, surrounded by the Kali Ghandaki and the Miagdi Khola rivers. Climbers are attracted to it by the possibility of finding new ascending routes between wide walls or among long ridges and pillars.
It is to the top of this mountain to which the Slovak expedition, led by Peter Hámor, the most successful Slovak climber, is currently heading. The expedition will include several acclimatisation ascents to the lower peaks. This acclimatisation phase was also attended by the Slovak climber, Haike Ivaničová, who is now already back in Slovakia planning additional climbs. Haike's highest peak was Island Peak (6,189 m asl).
It would not be possible without the right gear
The expedition arrived on Imja Tse, which is the local name for this mountain, at 7:30 a.m. local time after achieving 1,240 altitude metres from the base camp in Lobuche.
Haike Ivaničová climbed to the summit of Island Peak wearing the Oisly Lady jacket. This quilted hooded jacket can be folded into a small bag, so Haike could carry it very easily when she was heading from the village to the base camp. Finally, as a lower insulating layer, it helped her to cope with very low temperatures at two in the morning when she set off for the camp and then again at the highest point of her Nepalese adventure.
