Textile Materials

Glossary of materials

SOFTSHELL
SoftShell is a special permeable fast drying, wind, rain and snow resistant material providing thermoinsulation. SoftShell clothing is suitable for all day activities in cooler, dry and relatively stable weather.

COTTON
Cotton is a soft textile fibre consisting of all but pure cellulose. Clothes made from cotton fibre are comfortable, easy to maintain, highly absorbent and lasting, cotton also has a good stronghold in traction (245-373 nM/tex) and in abrasion.

SPANDEX®
Spandex is a synthetic polymeric fibre, also known as Elastan or Lycra, used for clothes making as a heavier rubber substitute, it is always mixed with natural materials (cotton, wool or silk), it has extraordinary elasticity, clothes from materials with this fibre are strong, comfortable, abrasion and crease resistant.

NOMEX®
Nomex is a synthetic aramid (ARomatic polyAMID) fire and heat resistant fibre containing at least 5 % Kevlar and patented antistatic fibres. Clothes with a content of this fibre are abrasion, industrial oils, solvent and chemical resistant and do not lose moisture even in very dry conditions. Nomex material is primarily suitable for making firelighters´ clothing.

KEVLAR®
Kevlar is a synthetic para-amid light and strong fibre classified as heat hardenable plastic. Materials with Kevlar fibre are elastic, cut resistant and heat resistant.

CORDURA®
Cordura is a registered name for Nylon 66, it is one of the strongest fabrics that has ever been made, it is extremely abrasion and puncture resistant, fibres are polyuretan coated and treated for maximum water repellence. This material is suitable for hunting clothes and equipment manufacturing, backpacks, luggage, cyclist shoes or winter sport and work clothes.

THINSULATE
Thinsulate is s thin synthetic thermo isolation microfibre from the 3M company with down structure. Clothing with Thinsulate fibre isolates heat even in moist climate, it traps air and reflects body heat.

POLYESTER (PES)
Polyester is a polymeric synthetic fibre resistant to climatic changes and microorganisms, it is fast drying and made from petroleum. There are several polyester fibres types that are differentiated by the actual manufacturing technology and specific characteristics used at the same time. Polyester clothes are light, less creasy, strong and lasting.

FLEECE
Fleece is light permeable synthetic material made from 100 % polyester manufactured into twisted fibre (possible use of recycled PET bottles), surface is modified into pile with brush. This material does not absorb moisture and has good thermoisolation features in dry and wet conditions. Fleece gains new features like elasticity or wind and water resistance by adding extra materials.

POLYURETANE (PU or PUR)
Polyurethane is elastic polymer suitable for the manufacturing of textile fibres (sport overalls for swimmers, baby nappies etc.), glues and elastic foams. PU materials are light, strong and elastic.
